The Katherine Thomas School serves students ages 4-21 with language, learning, and sensory motor disabilities and high functioning autism, including the social-emotional issues that affect their learning. Multi-disciplinary teams work together to provide an appropriate education that enables each student to develop his or her potential and achieve academic success, build self-esteem, and enhance social skills.
The Pre-School uses the Developmental Individual-Difference Relationship-Based (DIR) model, analyzing each child’s individual profile and creating a program that incorporates functional-emotional development, regulatory-sensory processing, language and learning capabilities. In the pre-school, a special education teacher, speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, and teacher assistant all work together in the room for the entire school day. The staff-to-student ratio allows for maximum individualization and excellent outcomes.
The High School Program gives secondary students an opportunity to break through educational barriers. Students can pursue academic and career technology training in a small class environment that offers individualized attention.
Services include speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, psychological services, and physical therapy.
