The curriculum is based on a multidisciplinary approach to childhood education and the treatment of emotional disabilities. The school provides academic instruction, mental health and play therapy, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy as well as psychiatric consultation as needed.

Program Overview

The school serves children 4 to 12 years of age. The program is an 11 month school program to provide continuity of structure, consistency in relationships, educational programming, and ongoing provision of therapies to our students. Our students currently come from Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland, Arlington and Fairfax Counties in Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

The school’s program is based on the philosophy that healthy relationships are the context for learning, growth and change.

The school program combines an educational curriculum, aligned with the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards, with therapeutic services to strengthen children’s emotional resources, social capacities, cognitive development, motor abilities, and speech and language skills. Class size is up to 9 students in a classroom, with a minimum of one adult for three children. Maximum school enrollment is 50 children.

Multidisciplinary Staff

The school’s multidisciplinary staff which includes Maryland certified special education teachers, licensed and certified social workers, licensed occupational therapist, licensed speech and language pathologist, and licensed consulting psychiatrist work closely with parents and public school personnel to develop individualized goals, determine progress and plan an ongoing program to maximize each child’s potential.
